# Users (vs Contacts)

## User Contacts

When a new user is created and added to Disciple.Tools a contact record is created to represent this user. This lets the user be sub-assigned to other contacts, or be marked as a contact's coach or show which contacts the user baptized.

Note: A user will have a user profile and a contact record and these fields are not the same and are not kept in sync.

## Users

Disciple.Tools is a collaborative software that can be modified and updated by multiple users at once. Each user has his or her own login and password. Each user is assigned a particular role allowing varying degrees of access to the Disciple.Tools site. To learn more about User Roles, see [Roles](https://disciple.tools/docs/roles-introduction/).
